White dominates Faldo Series field at Moortown

21 July 2016

21 July 2016: Oliver White was in sublime touch to win the England North Championship at Moortown Golf Club by an enormous eight shots. White (Pannal G.C.) posted impressive rounds of 72, 67 & 72 to claim overall victory and a place in the Faldo Series Grand Final; to be held at Stoke by Nayland in October.

White’s stunning 67 on day two was the difference, as no other player shot under 70 all week. An eagle on the par 5 12th; the longest hole of the course, illustrated how well he was striking the ball. As White cruised through to take the win Nathan Fell (Lindrick G.C.) finished strongly claiming runner up in the Under 21 category.

The Under 18 category was also won by a standout performance. Sam Bairstow (Hallowes G.C.) shot 73 on all three days to win the division with ease. He mastered the back nine to defeat nearest challenger Fergus Robinson (Northamptonshire County G.C.) by eight shots. Bairstow’s high quality play is rewarded with a place in his first Faldo Series Grand Final.

The Under 16 division was far tighter with two Woodsome Hall G.C. players battling it out for the last available qualifying spot for the Grand Final. George Heath eventually won the bragging rights as he held off Isaac Turner by two shots. Turner fired a last day 71; a terrific score on the renowned and fearsome MacKenzie-designed course, but Heath kept his form to claim the coveted Grand Final place.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
