Three tied at the top after day one of Faldo Final

11 September 2012: Jack Singh-Brar and Rochelle Morris of England share the lead with Scotland’s Ewan Scott after opening rounds of level par over the Faldo Course at Lough Erne Resort. Players attended a long game clinic delivered by Sir Nick Faldo.

“The weather was constantly changing today which made things tricky but I’m used to playing in these kinds of conditions,” said Morris who leads the girls’ division by one shot from Samantha Giles.

“My experience of playing the course before definitely helped,” said Scott who finished tied second in the 2010 Grand Final. “Just missing out two years ago is really motivating me to go one better this time round.”

The largest ever field for a Faldo Series Europe Grand Final is in Northern Ireland for the tournament’s sixteenth edition.  84 golfers from 19 countries are with Sir Nick Faldo at Lough Erne Resort for the World Amateur Golf Ranking event which concludes on September 13.

Competitors aged 12 to 21 are contesting for the title over 54 holes on the Faldo-designed course at Lough Erne Resort.  The six-time Major winner will arrange for the leading boy and girl overall to play in a professional Tour event.

With the field divided into five age-groups – three for boys and two for girls – each age-group winner will also be invited by Faldo to compete in the 2013 Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March.

Off the course players are receiving expert advice from the British PGA, including a seminar on careers in golf, and from Faldo’s personal coach, Keith Wood.  Faldo is on hand all week to spend time with the competitors, including a long-game clinic today, and to host a grass-roots initiative for local school children.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule featured a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.

Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
