Barnet, United Kingdom (July 2): The Faldo Series UK season roars into life as a field of over 100 top juniors line up at Old Fold Manor in Hertfordshire today. Young golfers hailing from around the globe will be fighting for a place in the prestigious Faldo Series Europe Grand Final.

The precociously talented Harry Butler will look to defend his title on the beautiful Harry Colt designed course over the next three days. Butler putted superbly last July to claim victory by three shots and in the process book himself into a Faldo Series Grand Final – a tournament he performed incredibly well in.

Butler has proven pedigree but he will still need to be at his best. He is joined at Old Fold Manor by golfers with burgeoning reputations and in rich veins of form. George Fricker returns after a very credible effort in last year’s event as does Owen Benson who finished second in his category. The Under-21 category in particular looks set to be an extremely high standard and the victor will no doubt be ecstatic to emerge triumphant from such a strong field.

The course at Old Fold Manor has always provided a great challenge for Faldo Series competitors. In the summer sun the greens run fast and the undulations of the course will test every player thoroughly. Course management is vital as straying off line can easily cost shots. The course has recently served as a Regional Qualifying course for the Open Championship.

The tournament will be played over three rounds and is a World Amateur Golf Ranking event. The field will be divided into three age-groups and the winners of each division will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending 22nd Faldo Series Europe Grand Final – to be held at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club (AESGC) in the United Arab Emirates. AESGC boasts a superb course and immaculate facilities in the Oasis city of Al Ain.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
