New venue Ashburnham Golf Club hosts fourth event of season

9 July 2018

Burry Port, Wales (July 9): The Faldo Series season heads to new venue Ashburnham Golf Club in Wales today as a high quality field with a sprinkling of various nationalities is expected at the highly regarded links course in South Wales.

Ashburnham has joined the Faldo Series roster in 2018 and will provide a new type of challenge for the young golfers. The players will enjoy a true links challenge on the south coast of Wales. The wind and its shifting direction tests even experienced links golfers. Viewed as one of the best links in Wales; the course is in great condition, despite the heatwave.

Sir Nick Faldo commented: 'It's great to be a new venue and especially a nice links course. The players will need to be creative and imaginative to get round in good shape. They'll also need to keep their cool in this heat! It'll be a great challenge for them and that's what's going to help them develop"

The tournament at Ashburnham Golf Club follows on from Old Fold Manor that was hard-fought-for and will illustrate to the players at Ashburnham the level of concentration and consistency required to win a Faldo Series event.

The tournament will be played over three rounds and is a World Amateur Golf Ranking event. The field will be divided into five age-groups and the winners of each division will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending 22nd Faldo Series Europe Grand Final – to be held at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club (AESGC) in the United Arab Emirates. AESGC boasts a superb course and immaculate facilities in the Oasis city of Al Ain.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
