Kilkenny, Ireland (July 30): The Faldo Series Ireland Championship tees off today at Mount Juliet Estate & Golf Club near Kilkenny. 75 of the best young golfers in the region will play the course over three rounds and the winners of each division will qualify for the 22nd Faldo Series Grand Final.

Mount Juliet is extremely well regarded and has a strong claim to being Ireland finest parkland golf course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the venue has hosted various high-profile events including three Irish Opens – the last of which in 1993 was claimed by Sir Nick Faldo.

Mount Juliet is an addition to the Faldo Series programme for the 2018 season and the scenic new venue is sure to be a popular choice with the players. Decision-making off the tee is crucial due to the placement of the hazards. The players will need to think their way round the course and the water will be playing on their minds throughout.

The tournament will be played over three rounds and is a World Amateur Golf Ranking event. The field will be divided into four age-groups and the winners of each division will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending 22nd Faldo Series Europe Grand Final – to be held at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club (AESGC) in the United Arab Emirates. AESGC boasts a superb course and immaculate facilities in the Oasis city of Al Ain.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
