Male division scores close heading into final round of Major Champions Invitational

ORLANDO, FLA. (March 13, 2018) – The inaugural Major Champions Invitational hosted by Sir Nick Faldo finished round two with six juniors sitting within two strokes of the lead. The tournament will conclude after 72 holes on March 14, 2018 at Bella Collina in Montverde, Florida. 

The Major Champions Invitational will award three prizes after 72 holes of competition; low-scoring male, low-scoring female and low-scoring team. Taking the lead in the male division is 16-year-old Akshay Bhatia (United States), who finished at 10-under-par. Bhatia is playing for Team Nicklaus.

Tied for second at 9-under-par are 19-year-old Ben Wong (Hong Kong, Team Pate), 15-year-old Tom McKibbin (Northern Ireland, Team McIlroy) and 18-year-old Julián Périco Ibaícena (United States, Team Daly). 16-year-old Grayson Wotnosky (United States, Team D. Johnson) sits one back at 8-under-par.

Linn Grant (18, Sweden) retains the lead in the female division at 8-under-par. Sixteen-year-old Cory Lopez (Mexico) sits solo in second place for the females with 2-under-par. Grant and Lopez are both playing in the tournament as individuals.

The team representing 2016 U.S. Open Champion Dustin Johnson hung onto their first round lead in the team division with 4-under-par. Team Johnson is comprised of Isabella Britt (15), Trent Phillips (17), Lauren Stephenson (20) and Grayson Wotnosky (16), all from the United States.

After the conclusion of the second round, a clinic was held for the participants with Tournament Host Sir Nick Faldo, followed by a dinner featuring famed college football coach Lou Holtz.

Round three tee-times begin at 7:45 AM on Wednesday, March 14 at Bella Collina.

The Major Champions Invitational is a tournament created by World Golf Hall of Fame member and six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo. An extension of the Faldo series, the event provides major champions an opportunity to mentor and inspire the next generation of players while giving back to the game.
