Local boy Gaster grabs Faldo Series glory in Austria

15 July 2014

15 July 2014: Austria’s Clemens Gaster held off a strong international challenge to win his national Faldo Series Championship at the Waidhofen Golf Resort. The 21-year-old closed with a final round 71 to pip overnight leader Kristyna Frydlova - who won the Girls’ Under-21 division, to the overall title.

Gaster can now look forward to making his Faldo Series Grand Final debut at The Greenbrier in October whilst Frydlova will be lining up in her second successive final in West Virginia later on this year.

They will be joined there by David van de Sanden (Boys’ Under-18) of the Netherlands, Poland’s Kuba Urbanski (Boys’ Under-16) and the Czech Republic’s Frantiska Lunackova (Girls’ Under-16), the younger sister of Marie, who last month won the Faldo Series Czech Championship in Telc.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and The European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule featured a record 20 tournaments in 15 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, Greece and the USA.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
