Inaugural Major Champions Invitational boasts winners from around the world

ORLANDO, FLA. (March 14, 2018) – Fifteen-year-old Tom McKibbin from Northern Ireland, and sixteen-year-old Cory Lopez from Mexico, took home the titles of male and female champion at the inaugural Major Champions Invitational. The junior event, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, was played March 12-14, 2018 at Bella Collina in Montverde, Florida.

McKibbin shot a final round of 3-under-par 69 to end the three-day event at 12-under, edging out Julián Périco Ibaícena (United States) by one shot. McKibbin’s team captain, Rory McIlroy, was also a previous winner of a Faldo Series event.

Lopez, who started the day six shots behind second round leader Linn Grant (Sweden), carded a final round of 7-under-par 65 to end the event 9-under and win by two over Grant.

The top three finishers (and ties) in the male and female divisions will receive an invitation to play in next year’s Major Champions Invitational.

The team representing 2016 U.S. Open Champion Dustin Johnson led wire-to-wire in the inaugural event, shooting 19-under-par to win by seven over Team Nicklaus. Team Johnson is comprised of Isabella Britt (15), Trent Phillips (17), Lauren Stephenson (20) and Grayson Wotnosky (16), all from the United States.

About the Major Champions Invitational

The Major Champions Invitational is a tournament created by World Golf Hall of Fame member and six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo. An extension of the Faldo series, the event provides major champions an opportunity to mentor and inspire the next generation of players while giving back to the game.
