Faldo Series marks ten years in Brazil

26 May 2017

26 May 2017: The Faldo Series will celebrate ten years in Brazil when its annual South America Championship tees off at Alphaville Graciosa in Curitiba on June 2-4. Over 90 players are expected to head to the South coast of Brazil for the three day competition.

With World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, golfers aged 12 to 21 will compete over three rounds in the tenth Faldo Series South America Championship, which moves to Alphaville Graciosa for the first time.

‘I wish to thank the Brazilian Golf Conferation for all their support in making this happen.’ Commented Sir Nick Faldo. ‘It’s a fun, exciting time in Brazilian golf after the Olympics last year and the Latin America Amateur Championships. Good luck to all the players – play hard – and win!’

Henrik Machado triumphed in Brazil in 2016 and 2015. Machado enjoyed huge success at the Faldo Series Grand Final in September as he finished overall runner-up and winner of his age division. The players in Brazil will be extremely keen to follow in Machado’s footsteps and win a qualifying spot in the Faldo Series Grand Final.

The Faldo Series South America Championship is organized by the Brazilian Golf Confederation and the Faldo Series, with support from the Alphaville Graciosa Club and the Paraná and Santa Catarina Golf Federation. The tournament also has support from the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) as Brazilian sport looks to push on from the success of Rio 2016.

Sir Nick Faldo’s personal Coach Keith Wood will attend the event to provide his expertise. Keith will work with the players and also with local coaches in clinics and one-to-one tuition. The new national coach of the Brazilian Golf Confederation, Luiz Felipe Miyamura will also be in attendance.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
