Faldo Series joy for Jacintho in Brazil

22 July 2013

22 July 2013: Luiz Jacintho secured victory in the sixth Faldo Series South American Championship at Damha Golf Club in Sao Paulo thanks to impressive closing rounds of 67 and 68. The Brazilian will now have the chance to compete in a PGA Tour Latino America event later this year.

Jacintho also secured a spot in the seventeenth Faldo Series Grand Final alongside local favourite Marcos Negrini from Dahma Golf Club (Boys’ Under-16) and Nina Rissi Miozzo (Girls’ Under-16).

Uruguay’s Federico Levinsky (Boys Under-18) and Chile’s Florencia Vinagre (Girls’ Under-21) are the other winners joining six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, USA this October.

Younger children from the region also got involved in the action through a fun Faldo Mini Series event.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 15 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, Greece and the USA.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona marks another significant step in the programme’s history.
