10 September 2012: Joshua Gibbons claimed a two-shot victory in the 2012 Faldo Series Brunei Championship at The Empire Hotel and Country Club.  Local brothers Qawim and Qazzri Aslimon tied for second place and will join the Englishman at the Asia Grand Final in China.

Malaysian-resident Gibbons fired rounds of 73 and 70 at the Royal Trophy venue to finish at one-over-par on 143.  The 16-year-old qualifies for his second Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club next March.

Brunei’s Qawim Aslimon, 19, and his 16-year-old brother Qazzri were celebrating their first trip to the World Amateur Golf Ranking event in Shenzhen.  An excited Qazzri triumphed in the Boys’ Under-16 category on 145, a total matched by Qawim who earned his Grand Final invite as the leading non-exempt national player.

Completing the line-up of Grand Final qualifiers in the tournament’s second year was Malaysia’s Jaclyn Chen Jin Yi.  The 14-year-old impressed with a 36-hole total of 147 to successfully defend the girls’ division.  A group of younger children enjoyed their first tournament experience as part of a nine-hole Faldo Mini Series event.

Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

The 2012/2013 Faldo Series Asia schedule features a record 18 tournaments in 15 countries, including four in mainland China and others in The Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.
