FALDO SERIES WINNER AT BROCKET HALL SET TO RECEIVE MEMBERSHIP RIGHTS FOR A YEAR

(Hertfordshire, UK):The second England South Qualifying event of the 2019 Faldo Series Europe calendar will take on a slightly different proposition next week, with the overall winner being given membership rights at host venue Brocket Hall.

The prize is a fitting acknowledgement from the club, which is right next door to Welwyn Garden City, where Series founder, Sir Nick Faldo, honed his own skills as a junior golfer.

The event will see 112 of the brightest junior boy golfers in the UK head to The Melbourne Club, Brocket Hall on 1st July, one of four English events played between April to July, whereby the winners of each category (U21, U18, U16) will gain entry to the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, UAE in November.

This particular event, however, adds extra incentive for the winner. Regardless of age division, the overall champion of this Qualifier event will receive full membership and playing rights for a year at The Melbourne Club, Brocket Hall – one of the most prestigious memberships available in the UK.

Michael Longshaw, Managing Director at Brocket Hall, said: “We feel extremely fortunate to be able to host one of the four English qualifying events in the Faldo Series Europe 2019 schedule. The talent on show is quite remarkable and to be able to offer a year’s membership and playing rights to the overall winner is something that will be thoroughly deserved to whoever comes out on top. We’re sure the winner will be able to take advantage of the fantastic facilities on offer, both practicing and playing before they head off to Abu Dhabi in November. We have been working hard to ensure the Palmerston Course is in immaculate condition and we can’t wait for the action to unfold.”

Brocket Hall is a club often credited for its commitment to junior golf through grassroots initiatives that encourage the growth of the game. The club is set within the opulent surroundings of the Brocket Hall Estate in rural Hertfordshire, the venue’s two championship standard golf courses sit within beautifully manicured 18th century parkland and are aptly named after Prime Ministers who once lived on the property – Lord Palmerston and Lord Melbourne.

The three-day event is played on the Palmerston Course. This Donald Steel design opened in 2000 and plays a considerable 7,080 yards off the championship tees, winding its way through undulating terrain and mature woodland, consisting of 300-year-old pine, oak and cedar trees. Not only does it demand accuracy off the tee, but a skilful putting touch is also required to find the hole on the often large and sloping greens.

Matthew Faldo, Faldo Series Director, commented: “The England South Qualifier at Brocket Hall is one of the most popular events on our 2019 calendar – we have 112 entries across three age categories, and I can’t wait to see the boys battling it out. The membership prize is a lovely gesture from the team at Brocket Hall and one that signifies the importance of our event to them.”

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champion Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and PGA Championship.
