Cameron Long - My experience at the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final 2012

20 June 2012

Travelling and Arrival - it was a great experience travelling for 15 hours to get to China. I had some fun on the plane with the games which were very addictive. As I arrived in Hong Kong the atmosphere was very different and also driving to Mission Hills was very different. I arrived at Mission Hills and the place looked amazing. It was definitely around a 6 star hotel.

Practice Day - after the worst night’s sleep ever I had a tee time for 9am. I was on the range bright and early. The range was awesome, sandy but it was good. I played the Faldo course, probably one of the best courses I have seen. Every hole is exciting to play. After the practice I had to chill out and regain some energy because of the long journey we had and hardly any sleep. Then I had a really nice buffet with everyone.

Practice Day 2 - it was the second practice day and I finally had a good night’s sleep so I was up and excited to play the Faldo course. The weather had got a little warmer so I had a t-shirt on today. It was another good practice ready for the tournament to start tomorrow. After the practice we had to go to the tournament centre and get our shirts to wear each day, waterproof jacket, hat and umbrella.

Tournament Day 1/2/3 - I had a nice tee time for day 1 and it was a nice day. It was challenging but I recorded a 73 which was good around that course. Day 2 was a little more humid so it was tough, I shot 75 in the heat which I was happy with. After round 2 we had a clinic with Sir Nick Faldo which was really good. Day 3 was the hottest day and I struggled to keep my hands dry but it was good to see get the experience and I now know that it's tough in Asia. I shot 78 on the last day which wasn't too bad.

Gala Dinner/Departure - the gala dinner was good with some nice food. It was a good laugh too with the Q&A with Faldo. As we left Mission Hills it was sad but we have the experience now so next time I'm there I will hopefully be up at the top of the leaderboard. The journey home went fast and I arrived back home from a great week in China.
