09 August 2016: Jiri Zuska defended his Faldo Series Czech Championship title with a playoff win at new Faldo Series venue Golf Park Pilsen. Zuska defeated Jana Melichova with a birdie on the first extra hole to win the sixth edition of the Czech Championship.

Zuska shot rounds of 75, 68 and 72 at Golf Park Pilsen. He had enjoyed great success at the previous Faldo Series Czech venue and he was quick to adapt to the different style of course here. Zuska’s overall win included a vast eleven shot advantage in his Under-18 category. He will now head to his third Grand Final with very high hopes.

“My 68 yesterday really set up the week for me; I hit 16 greens in regulation which is a first for me, my iron play was great. I was really nervous today, with such a big lead I really felt the pressure not to lose. I would much prefer to be a shot behind chasing than leading; it is a different pressure but a great experience for me knowing I can hold such a lead. Another Grand Final, I hope to continue my good form and go for the title at Stoke by Nayland.”

The Czech players would have found motivation from previous finalist Simon Zach this week. Zach has been a fixture in the Faldo Series and finished 3rd in the European Amateur Championship this week.

Sir Nick’s personal coach Keith Wood conducted lessons lasting over four hours with most of the field in attendance. Keith was impressed by the positive attitude and enthusiasm exhibited by the Czech youngsters and noted the obvious determination to progress their games.

The Pilsen venue hosted a Ladies European Tour event in June and provided a good challenge for the Czech youngsters. The Boys’ Under-21 was won by another star of the Faldo Series Patrik Jericha. Jericha secured qualification for his fourth Grand Final with rounds of 75, 76 and 71 to win by three shots over Stepan Danek.

The last boys’ qualifier was Hynek Groh. Groh claimed the spoils in the Boys’ Under-16 category by an enormous ten shot margin. Groh shot 72, 74 and 75 in his victory and will line up in his first Grand Final in October.

Jana Melichova put in a superb performance in the Girls’ Under-21 division to continue her great season. Melichova won the 2016 Girls Czech International Junior Amateur Championship in June and is clearly still in fantastic form. Her three rounds of 71, 75 and 69 put her in a commanding position ahead of the other girls and she will be a force to contend with at the Grand Final at Stoke By Nayland.

Tereza Kozeluhova beat Patricie Mackova by three shots to win in the Girls’ Under-16 category. Kozeluhova led from the opening day and has now qualified for her first ever Grand Final.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
