Zach inspires Faldo Series growth in Czech Republic
17 June 2014: A full field of 126 has already been confirmed for the fourth Faldo Series Czech Championship at Telc Golf Resort in Telc on June 27-29. The country’s young golfers have been inspired by the success of Simon Zach, who finished tied third and tied eighth in the recent Faldo Series Grand Finals at The Greenbrier, USA and Mission Hills, China.
“Golf in the Czech Republic has come a long way since we held our first Series event there three years ago,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “Three Czech players including Simon finished inside the top ten at our 2013 Grand Final, that shows how far golf in the country has come. I am extremely thankful to the Telc Golf Resort and its owners CZ Golf who have worked hard to support our development efforts in the Czech Republic.”
“Simon’s experiences with the Faldo Series in the USA and China have created a real buzz among young people in Czech Republic,” added Tomas Prikryl, Commercial Manager of CZ Golf. “The Faldo Series has played a big part in helping us bring opportunity to young Czech golfers at both a tournament and grass-roots level.”
With World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, 126 top young golfers from the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries will compete over 54 holes in Telc, located 130 kilometres south of the capital Prague.
The field of boys and girls aged 12 to 21 will be divided into five age groups – three for boys and two for girls – with the winners of each division joining Sir Nick Faldo at the eighteenth Faldo Series Grand Final, to be hosted by the six-time Major Champion at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, USA on October 22-24.
Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa, The European Tour and The Greenbrier the 2014 Faldo Series Europe schedule features 17 tournaments in 15 countries including three in England plus others in Abu Dhabi, Ireland, Chile, Wales, Brazil, Scotland, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovakia and the USA.
Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
