09 July 2015: James Wilson of Balmore won the Faldo Series Scotland Championship by four shots to secure a spot in his first Grand Final. The 19-year-old shot a final day 68– the lowest score of the competition– to leave Marc Watt and 2014 Champion Andrew Davidson in his wake.

“My putting was really strong and the eagle on the first hole gave me the momentum for the round.” Said Wilson. “I was hitting it very straight and I gave myself a lot of chances on the tough greens. I’ve heard great things about the Grand Finals so really looking forward to going myself. “

Wilson started day three two shots back but sank an eagle on the first hole of the final day to seize the initiative on a glorious day in St Andrews one week before the world’s top golfers descend on the town for the 144th Open Championship. The Duke's is regarded as one of the finest heathland championship courses in the British Isles and the players certainly found the course to be a thorough examination of their skills.

Wilson will be joined at the Grand Final by Brad Robinson (Westerhope), four-shot winner of the Boy’s Under-18 division and Marc Watt (Inverallochy) who took the Under-16 division by two shots.

The final two qualifying spots went to 2014 Faldo finalist, Alison Muirhead (Emirates Golf Club Dubai) who also played in this year’s Faldo Series Middle East Championship and the Under-16 Champion Natasha Slater (Furness). Slater, like Wilson, Robinson and Watt will all make their debuts at the Grand Final in September.

Recognised as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
