Jakarta, Indonesia (January 11): Tirto Tamardi lived up to his billing as pre-tournament favourite with an assured victory in the ninth Faldo Series Indonesia Championship.

Thanks to a composed final-round display, Tamardi overcame concerted challenges from Stevanus Daniel Wirawan and Inez Beatrice Wanamarta to emerge triumphant over Damai Indah Golf's BSD Course in West Java.

With a 54-hole aggregate of three-under-par 213, Tamardi ended three shots clear of Wirawan and five in front of Wanamarta.

Heading into the final round of the 18th leg of the record-breaking 2015-16 Faldo Series Asia season, Tamardi was locked together at the top of the leaderboard with Wirawan and Wanamarta.

While his adversaries posted closing rounds of 73 and 75 respectively, Tamardi signed for a rock-solid two-under 70 to add a second Faldo Series Indonesia Championship trophy to his collection, having also won in 2014. He was runner-up last year.

Tamardi's latest success will ensure he consolidates his position as Indonesia's top-rated male in the R&A's men's World Amateur Golf Ranking.

It has also guaranteed him a return journey to Mission Hills China for the 10th anniversary Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, from March 2-4.

In last year's Grand Final, Tamardi posted a three-day total of one-under 215 over the award-winning Faldo Course at Mission Hills to finish third in the Boys' Under-16 category and 11th in the overall standings.

Six-time Major championship winner Sir Nick, Britain's most successful golfer, said: "Tirto played well in last year's Grand Final and I'll be watching him closely when we meet at Mission Hills in March. It would be wonderful if we are able to mark the 10th anniversary of the Faldo Series Asia with an Indonesian winner.

"My thanks to the Indonesian Golf Association and everyone at Damai Indah for their support and commitment to develop elite junior golf."

At Mission Hills, Tamardi will be part of a four-strong Indonesian contingent that also includes M. Seandy Alfarabi [Boys' Under-21 winner]; Wirawan [Boys' Under-18 winner] and Wanamarta [Girls' Under-16 winner].

For Alfarabi and Wanamarta there was delight at qualifying having narrowly missed out last year.

Having been pipped in a sudden-death play-off in the Boys' Under-18 division in 2015, Alfarabi was a handsome winner of the Under-21 segment this year.

Meanwhile, Wanamarta, runner-up in the Girls' Under-16 division last year with a three-round total of 231, had the distinction of improving her score by no fewer than 13 shots this time around.

Supported by The R&A and Mission Hills and endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the 2015-16 Faldo Series Asia campaign stretches over 11 months and includes 20 events in 17 countries.

Recognised as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching more than 7,000 golfers each year. Past winners include Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, both multiple Major champions who have held the world number one ranking.
