Singapore’s Ong wins Faldo Series in Brunei
2 December 2013: Marc Ong claimed a one-shot victory in the 2013 Faldo Series Brunei Championship at The Empire Hotel and Country Club. 18-year-old Ong shot rounds of 75 and 68 at the Royal Trophy venue to finish at one-over-par on 143. The Singaporean can now look forward to a third Asia Grand Final appearance in China next March.
Brunei’s Qawim Aslimon, 20, will join Ong at the World Amateur Golf Ranking event in Shenzhen for a second successive year. Aslimon competed in the Boys’ Under-21 division and earned his Grand Final invite as the leading non-exempt national player.
Completing the line-up of Grand Final qualifiers in the tournament’s third year is Singapore’s Kaho Monica Matsubara. Matsubara impressed with a 36-hole total of 144, one shot shy of Ong and will join Sir Nick Faldo and the other winners at Mission Hills Golf Club next year. A group of younger children enjoyed their first tournament experience as part of a nine-hole Faldo Mini Series event.
Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
