22 August 2016: Nicolas Schellong claimed victory in the seventh Faldo Series Slovakia Championship at the Black Stork Golf Resort. Schellong will now line up at the 20th Faldo Series Grand Final.

“It is a great feeling to finally qualify for a Grand Final.” Commented Overall winner Nicolas Schellong. “I have missed out on a number of occasions over the past few years with runners-up and third place finishes. I know I can play well around Black Stork from previous experiences. I have heard so many great things about the Grand Finals over the years and now to have the chance to go and meet Sir Nick for myself will be incredible.”

Schellong shot rounds of 71, 71 and 73 around the Black Stork course with the High Tatra Mountains providing a stunning backdrop. Schellong’s main opposition for overall victory came from Tereza Melecka from the Girls’ Under-21 division. Both shot the same score but Schellong defeated Melecka on the first hole of the playoff. In his Under-18 division however, Schellong was dominant, beating Vlastimil jun. Miler by eight shots.

Adam Puchmelter also enjoyed an extremely comfortable category win. Puchmelter fired rounds of 74, 70 and 73 to win the division and confirm his place in his third Grand Final. Puchmelter’s second day 70 was remarkable for its absence of bogeys; a mean feat on a course that provides a stern test on every hole.

Wet and windy conditions made scoring tricky on day one but as the sun came out on days two and three there were birdie chances to be taken. The wind looked to be blowing away Pavol Mach’s Grand Final ambitions as he endured a horrible start on day one with a triple bogey on the par 4. Mach however, recovered with great poise to post 73, 73 and 75 to win the Under-16 division and book his Grand Final place.

Tereza Melecka will play in her first Grand Final in October as she won her Under-21 category. Melecka managed the conditions well on day one with a 74 before making hay on days two and three with a 70 and 71. Her second day also included the only Eagle of the competition. Runner-up Natalia Heckova has proven her Faldo Series pedigree many times in the past but was unable to match the searing pace set by Melecka.

The final category; the Under-16, was won by Katarina Drocarova. Drocarova defeated Karolina Stara in a playoff after they could not be split over three rounds. Drocarova will compete in her first Faldo Series Grand Final when she lines up at Stoke By Nayland in October.

Sir Nick Faldo’s personal coach Keith Wood was at the Black Stork Resort to conduct lessons for the young players. Keith was also available to offer advice to any individual players who are looking to take their game to the next level.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
