02 April 2015: Marco Penge of Golf at Goodwood shot a brilliant closing 68 in tough conditions to claim victory in the Faldo Series Wales Championship at Pyle & Kenfig. The England Boys squad member shot 71 and 76 but saved his best for the final round. An impressive closing nine of 30 included five birdies to turn on the style and steer clear of his nearest rivals. Marco’s exploits have won him a place in his third Faldo Series Grand Final.

‘I controlled my ball flight really well this week in tough windy conditions.  I was most pleased with my round today, particularly my back nine where I gave myself plenty of opportunities for birdie,’ said Penge.  ‘The Grand Final will be another great learning experience to see Sir Nick again; I met him at Lough Erne and The Greenbrier and took a lot away from those weeks that has helped my development.’

With the elements conspiring against the players the quality field had to be at their best and most resilient to get rewards from the course. Jack Yule (Middleton Hall) will line up in his first Grand Final after winning the Boys’ U21 by four shots. Charlie Strickland (Ham Manor) dominated the Boys’ U16 and will return to the Grand Final for a second time.

England Girls squad member Samantha Fuller (Roehampton) won the Girls division by three shots to qualify for her second Faldo Series Grand Final. She will be joined by Ainee O’connor (Sundridge Park) who took the Girls’ U21 title in a play-off on the first extra hole who will also make her second Grand Final appearance.

Recognised as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
