Ngo celebrates fourth Faldo Series victory in Vietnam
28 July 2013: Ngo Bao Nghi claimed her fourth Faldo Series Vietnam Championship with a four-shot victory at Laguna Lang Co Golf Club in Thia Thien Hue Province. Ngo was one of four Vietnamese golfers to qualify for the Asia Grand Final in China next March.
“It was my first time playing this great golf course so I am very happy to win,” said 20-year-old Ngo from Vung Tau City. “I am currently on a golf scholarship in the US so hopefully my coach will give me time off for the Grand Final next March!”
Ngo added a 73 to her opening one-under-par 70 on the Faldo Design course at Laguna Lang Co near Danang and will now join Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in China for the eighth Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in March 2014.
Boys’ Under-16 winner Truong Chi Quan also qualifies for the World Amateur Golf Ranking event in China. The 15-year-old matched Ngo’s first-round 70 to share the overnight lead but struggled to a 77 on day two.
In the sixth edition of the Vietnam Championship, Do Le Gia Dat (Boys’ Under-21) and Tran Chieu Duong (Girls’ Under-16) were the other two age-group winners to secure their trip to Mission Hills early next year.
Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
In September 2013, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America. The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona marks another significant step in the programme’s history.
The 2013/2014 Faldo Series Asia schedule features a record 19 tournaments in 15 countries, including four in mainland China, two in India and others in The Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand.
The Faldo Series Asia is supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and Mission Hills. It is endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation.
