Local boy Gradecki grabs Series glory in Poland
18 August 2014: Mateusz Gradecki cruised to victory in the second Faldo Series Poland Championship on his home course – Gradi Golf Club in Brzeźno. Gradecki beat compatriot Adrian Meronk to the title by eight shots after a superb second round 64 all but sealed the tournament’s outcome with 18 holes to play.
“I am pleased with the composure that I showed when leading the tournament to see out victory,” said Gradecki, a Faldo Series finalist in 2010. “I am really looking forward to the Grand Final at The Greenbrier as I know from my experience at Lough Erne four years ago how great a week it is with Sir Nick.”
Gradecki will be joined at the 18th Faldo Series Grand Final by runner-up Adrian Meronk, who claimed the second available spot from the Boys’ Under-21 division and Alejandro Pedryc Ganko, who completed a clean sweep of the Grand Final spots for Poland in the Boys’ tournament by pipping Austria’s Ralph Leitner to the Boys’ Under-16 title.
2011 Faldo Series Girls’ Under-16 champion Natalia Heckova booked her spot in a fitfh Grand Final with a dominant four shot victory in the Girls Under-21 division. The now 18-year-old Slovakian will be joined at The Greenbrier in October by compatriot Olga Procharova, who set up a debut Grand Final appearance in West Virginia by winning the Girls’ Under-16 title.
Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa, The European Tour and The Greenbrier the 2014 Faldo Series Europe schedule features 17 tournaments in 15 countries including three in England plus others in Abu Dhabi, Ireland, Chile, Wales, Brazil, Scotland, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovakia and the USA.
