Faldo Series moves north to Pleasington
03 April 2015: The Faldo Series heads to Pleasington Golf Club for the next leg of the season on April 8-10. An impressive line-up will battle it out over 54 holes at the newly appointed North of England Championship venue.
“It is fantastic for the players to play at a new venue for our North of England Championship and test themselves at Pleasington” said Sir Nick Faldo. “The players know it will be a strong field and they will have the added pressure of competing for World Amateur Golf Ranking points. I hope it will be a great learning experience for them and provide a step in their development as young golfers.”
“It is a delight to welcome some of Europe’s finest young golfers to Pleasington”, stated Ryan O’Connor, Secretary of Pleasington Golf Club. “It is a privilege to be a part of the Faldo Series programme and we hope the youngsters will enjoy the unique and varied challenge that our course provides.”
Pleasington Golf Club, near Blackburn, is hosting a Faldo Series event for the first time. Regarded as one of the best tests of golf in the North of England with a superb layout, the course is part Heathland and part Parkland in character. It has hosted many championships including Open Championship Regional Qualifying. The winner of each division – three boys and two girls will join Faldo at the season-ending 19th Faldo Series Grand Final.
Recognised as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.
Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
