European Champions heading to Faldo Final in China
10 January 2013: Jack Singh-Brar and Rochelle Morris of England are among five winners from the 2012 Faldo Series Europe Grand Final who will travel to Mission Hills Golf Club in China to challenge for the Asia title on March 13-15.
“Winning the Grand Final in Europe really changed the way I feel about my life and career as a golfer,” said Singh-Brar, 16, who claimed the overall title at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland last September. “The Faldo Series experience has made me appreciate Sir Nick’s dedication to helping young golfers achieve their best and now we have an amazing opportunity to compete in China.”
17-year-old Morris, who won the girls’ title in Northern Ireland and was rewarded with her first professional Tour start as an amateur in October, will also compete in the seventh Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by the six-time Major Champion over 54 holes on the Faldo Course at Mission Hills.
Robert Busher and Sophie Keech are two more English players who will be making their debut at Mission Hills in Shenzhen, located close to Hong Kong and the official Home of the Faldo Series since its launch in Asia in 2006.
Completing the line up of European winners heading to the World Amateur Golf Ranking event in China is Scotland’s Ewan Scott. The 17-year-old has battled with Faldo Series Asia players before, finishing runner-up to Masamichi Ito of Japan in the 2010 Europe final.
Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
The 2012/2013 Faldo Series Asia schedule features a record 18 tournaments in 15 countries, including four in mainland China and others in The Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand.
The seventh Faldo Series Asia Grand Final is supported by major partners ISPS, Mission Hills and The R&A. It is endorsed by the Asian Tour, the Asia Pacific Golf Federation and the Guangdong Golf Association.
