Edgar enjoys narrow Faldo Series win in Singapore
6 September 2012: Edgar Oh birdied the final hole at Warren Golf and Country Club to take the 2012 Faldo Series Singapore Championship by the narrowest of margins. The 16-year-old started his third and final round level with Marc Ong but clinched a one-shot victory with a brilliant 66 against his playing partner’s 67.
A four-under-par total gives Oh his second Faldo Series title and a return trip to the seventh Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club next March. Runner-up Ong, 16, who led by one after 53 holes but bogeyed the last for a dramatic two-shot swing, will join Oh at the Faldo-hosted event in Shenzhen.
Also heading to the Asia Grand Final in March 2013 is girls’ winner Amanda Tan, 13. All three qualifiers were presented with their invitations by senior Asian Tour official Eric Lynge following a Q&A session for the players.
Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
The 2012/2013 Faldo Series Asia schedule features a record 18 tournaments in 15 countries, including four in mainland China and others in The Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.
The Faldo Series Asia is supported by major partners ISPS, Mission Hills and The R&A, official golf wear partner UFL and official suppliers TaylorMade and Tricor. It is endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation.
