Cohen crowned Faldo Series Greece Champion
28 June 2012: Asaf Cohen of Israel won the third Faldo Series Greece Championship by six shots at the Glyfada Golf Club of Athens, shooting rounds of 76 and 74 to beat 2011 finalist Vasilis Koubakis to the title.
18-year-old Asaf becomes the first Israeli to win a Series event and will now compete in the 16th Faldo Series Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Lough Erne Resort on September 11-13. Two other age group winners heading to Northern Ireland are Violetta Siozou (Girls’ Under-21) and Vasilis Koubakis (Boys’ Under-16), both from Greece.
Glafkie Christodoulidou, 15, ensured that Cyprus will be represented at the Grand Final for the first time by winning the Girls’ Under-16 age category.
Keith Wood, Faldo’s personal coach was again present to work with the competitors. 100 local school children also gathered over two days for a programme of fun grass-roots activities.
Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.
Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
