Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (March 20): Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club (AESGC) will host the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final for the next four years, Sir Nick Faldo has announced.

Following the success of last year's Europe Grand Final at AESGC, the 22nd edition will take place from November 27-29, 2018 over the acclaimed championship course, located within Oasis City.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club and a Member of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, said: “I am extremely proud that Al Ain will host the prestigious Faldo Series Europe Grand Final for the next four years.

“The United Arab Emirates is a modern and dynamic country well known for its stability and safety. The city of Al Ain is a tranquil oasis and a place of pride, heritage and culture.

“I'm very pleased we are creating a positive long-term legacy here at AESGC and I wish to extend a warm and friendly welcome to all the participants and guests of the Faldo Series.”

Six-time Major champion Sir Nick, Britain’s most successful golfer, expressed his delight that AESGC has committed to developing youth golf through the Faldo Series.

He said: “The UAE has established itself as a premium golfing destination and our players from all over the world will be delighted to visit the UAE through the Faldo Series in the years ahead. Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club is an exceptional facility and one with which I am proud to be associated.

“The Club were outstanding hosts last year and will make a wonderful home for the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final through 2021, which will be an especially poignant year as it will mark our 25th anniversary.”

It was also confirmed that AESGC will continue for another four years as hosts to the Faldo Series Middle East Championship, which attracts many of the region’s most talented young golfers.

This year's championship will be held from March 27-29 and will consist of five age group categories – three for boys and two for girls. Each category winner will earn a place at November’s season-ending 54-hole Grand Final, an R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event.

During the week, Sir Nick's personal coach, Keith Wood, will be on hand to provide clinics for the competitors and schoolchildren from the city of Al Ain.

His Excellency Mohammed Rashid Al Nasseri, General Manager of Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, said: “It is with great pride and pleasure we welcome everyone back for another Faldo Series event. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to all who have helped contribute to the success of the previous events here.

“Our championship golf course is once again in superb condition and the Faldo Series players will enjoy the club’s wonderful facilities. I am sure the golfers will inspire and amaze us as they compete at the new home of the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final. The best of luck to all of you!”

Leading the contenders at the 2018 Faldo Series Middle East Championship will be defending champion Josh Hill, an Englishman based in the UAE, who will celebrate his 14th birthday on the opening day of the tournament.

Hill qualified for last year’s Faldo Series Europe Grand Final by virtue of his success at the Middle East Championship, which he won by four shots in 2017. He went on to win the Under-16 Division at the Grand Final.

At the start of this month, Hill travelled to Vietnam where he finished runner-up in the Boys’ Under-16 section in the 12th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at the award-winning Faldo Design course at Laguna Lang Co.

The Middle East Championship traditionally boasts a strong international field with no fewer than 20 countries represented at Al Ain last year.

As well as its 18-hole golf course and nine-hole academy course, Al Ain offers equestrian lessons, shooting and rugby plus a variety of family activities such as outdoor pools, gym and a climbing wall.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
