Ahmad defends Faldo Series title in Pakistan
23 January 2013: Mubariz Ahmad of Islamabad survived a three-way play-off to successfully defend the second Faldo Series Pakistan Championship at Defence Raya Golf and Country Club in Lahore. The 17-year-old was one of four golfers to qualify for the Asia Grand Final in China.
Defending champion Ahmad fired rounds of 84, 74 and 77 to set up the playoff with Faisal Mir and Minhaj Maqsood. Mir claimed victory over Maqsood for the Boys’ Under-16 title and a spot alongside Ahmad at the seventh Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills in China on March 13-15.
Joining Ahmad and Mir (Gujranwala) at the Asia Grand Final in Shenzhen, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, will be Boys’ Under-21 winner Wamiq Shakeel from Rawalpindi and, in the Girls’ Under-21 division, Lahore local Nushmiya Sukhera.
Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
The 2012/2013 Faldo Series Asia schedule features a record 18 tournaments in 15 countries, including four in mainland China and others in The Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand.
The Faldo Series Asia is supported by major partners ISPS, Mission Hills and The R&A. It is endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation.
