Wang wins second Faldo Series title in Taiwan

24 May 2013:  Wang Wei-Lun fired a final-round 66 to win the Faldo Series Chinese Taipei Championship for a second time at Sunrise Golf and Country Club.  The 2011 winner finished six shots clear of defending Faldo Series Asia Girls’ Champion Cheng Ssu-Chia.

Overnight leader Wang added to his scores of 73 and 70 with an early eagle and then four birdies in the last six holes of his six-under-par final round.  The 19-year-old qualifies for his second Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March.

17 May 2013: Entries for the Faldo Series UK Championship at Panmure on June 26-27 will close on Friday 24 May.  Talented young golfers from Scotland only have a few more days to be part of Sir Nick Faldo’s global golf development programme in 2013.

Competitors will have a chance to qualify for the 17th Faldo Series Grand Final, the 54-hole end-of-season event hosted by the six-time Major winner.  Five age-category winners at Panmure – three boys and two girls – will go through to the World Amateur Golf Ranking event, with all local expenses covered.

14 May 2013: Organisers expect another record turnout for this year’s Faldo Series Czech Championship which returns to Telc Golf Resort in Telc for the third consecutive year on June 21-23.  Five winners will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending Grand Final.

“The Czech Championship has been hugely successful with more than 100 competitors taking part in each of the first two years,” said Faldo.  “I thank Telc Golf Resort and its owners CZ Golf for their support in bringing the Series back to the Czech Republic for a third year.”

30 April 2013: The second Faldo Series Chile Championship will be held at Club de Golf La Dehesa in Santiago on May 17-18, organisers have announced.  The country’s top young golfers took part in last year’s inaugural event and an even bigger field is predicted for 2013 at the new venue.

25 April 2013: Thomas Robson won the third Faldo Series UK Championship of the 2013 season with a course record-equalling final-round 67 at Royal Ashdown Forest in Sussex.  The 20-year-old from Weymouth Golf Club in Dorset finished two shots clear of 2010 finalist Marco Penge (Worthing) who won the Boys’ Under-16 division.

Local boy Cunniffe wins first Faldo Series in Abu Dhabi

18 April 2013:  Local favourite Eoin Cunniffe triumphed in a play-off to win the Faldo Series Middle East Championship at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club (AESGC) in Abu Dhabi.  The 16-year-old Al Ain resident will join Sir Nick Faldo at the season-ending Grand Final, along with players from Dubai and Qatar.

“I was nervous during the last hole and the play-off so I’m proud of the way I held some crucial putts to win,” said a delighted Cunniffe.  “Having home support made a big difference and now I can’t wait to meet Nick Faldo and play in the Grand Final.”   

15-year-old girl beats record field in Ireland

18 April 2013: Olivia Mehaffey won the sixth Faldo Series Ireland Championship by two shots with consecutive rounds of 72 over the Faldo Course at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland.  The Ireland girls’ squad member beat 134 competitors to the title, the largest ever field for the event.

Kinnear celebrates Faldo Series win at West Lancs

12 April 2013: 19-year-old Paul Kinnear won the second Faldo Series UK Championship of 2013 with a thrilling play-off victory over Jack Haines at West Lancashire Golf Club in Liverpool.

Kinnear (Formby) and 20-year-old Haines (Buckinghamshire) were both paired together in the Boys’ Under-21 division but could not be separated on four over par after 36 holes of regulation play.  Four extra holes were required to separate the players before Kinnear eventually triumphed in the sudden-death play-off.

9 April 2013:  Sir Nick Faldo has announced a 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule that features a record 20 events in 14 countries, including new tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Italy.  With the Faldo Series Asia schedule set to be finalised in the coming weeks, the global golf development programme will benefit more than 7,000 young golfers in 30 countries this year.

Spooner seals Faldo Series victory at season opener

5 April 2013: Billy Spooner won the first Faldo Series UK Championship of the 2013 season with a superb one-under-par 70 at Moortown Golf Club in Yorkshire.  The England squad member finished three shots clear of his nearest challenger after the event was shortened to 18 holes due to snow.

“This is my first time playing on the Faldo Series and it feels great to win, especially in such testing conditions,” said Spooner of Boston Golf Club in Lincolnshire.  “I’m really looking forward to meeting Sir Nick, he’s a winner and it will be great to learn from him at the final.”

7 March 2013: The largest-ever field for a Faldo Series Asia Grand Final will join Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in China on March 13-15.  A total of 84 golfers from 17 countries will compete for the 2013 title.

Sriprasith tops Faldo Series field in Thailand

28 February 2013: Napong Sriprasith is one of five Thai golfers who will join Sir Nick Faldo at next month’s Faldo Series Asia Grand Final following victory in the fifth Thailand Championship at Plutaluang Navy Golf Course in Pattaya.

16-year-old Sriprasith from Chonburi fired two rounds of 69 to finish on six under par and win by one from overnight leader Patthara Amonvescharath.  With victory in the Boys’ Under-18 division, Amonvescharath secured a spot alongside Sriprasith at the seventh Asia Grand Final in China on March 13-15.

25 February 2013: Sir Nick Faldo will expand his golf development efforts in the Middle East with the launch of a new Faldo Series tournament in the United Arab Emirates.  The Middle East Championship will be held at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in Abu Dhabi for the next three years, starting this year on April 17-18.

21 February 2012:  The Faldo Series has extended the deadline for entry into its first four UK Championships by one week, giving talented young golfers until Friday 1 March to be part of Sir Nick Faldo’s global golf development programme in 2013.

Interest has been high since the Faldo Series UK schedule was announced for 2013, including a reduced entry fee that Faldo hopes will further increase the accessibility of its tournaments to young golfers of all backgrounds.

14 February 2013:  The Faldo Series Ireland Championship will return to Lough Erne Resort in County Fermanagh on April 16-17, 2013, organisers announced today.  Last year’s event saw a record number of participants and an even bigger field is predicted for 2013.

16-year-old Ireland squad member Rowan Lester (Hermitage) won the tournament in 2012 before finishing an impressive third in his age-category at the Grand Final.  Lester and four more Irish winners qualified for the final where they spent the week learning from six-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo.

11 February 2013: Jordan Surya Irawan fired a closing 70 to secure victory in the sixth Faldo Series Indonesia Championship at the Damai Indah Golf BSD Course in West Java.  18-year-old Irawan was one of five golfers to qualify for the Asia Grand Final in March.

Irawan added a 70 to a superb opening round 66 to win by six from Fahmi Reza.  Both players secured a spot in the seventh Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in China.

24 January 2013: Xu Guo Zhen fired a tournament-low 74 to secure the sixth Faldo Series Kunming Championship at Lakeview Golf Club in Yunnan Province, China. 14-year-old Xu from Beijing was one of five competitors to qualify for the Asia Grand Final in March.

Xu added a 74 to his opening 77 on the Faldo Design course in Kunming to win by three from Luo Xue Wen. The Chinese pair both earned a start in the seventh Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen.

Faldo Series champion inspires Indonesian golfers

23 January 2013: Damai Indah Golf will again host the country’s top young golfers when the sixth Faldo Series Indonesia Championship returns to the BSD Course in Jakarta on February 7-8. Competitors will be inspired by Cahyo Adhitomo who last year became the first Indonesian to win a Grand Final title.

Golfers aged 12 to 21 will compete over 36 holes at the BSD Course in West Java. Three boys and two girls will qualify for the seventh Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by the six-time Major winner at Mission Hills Golf Club in China on March 13-15.
